The Phoenix Enterprise Centre Food Pantry has been operating from within Phoenix Enterprise Centre (PEC) since 2021 and is providing much-needed support to the most vulnerable within the former Copeland borough which stretches along the Cumbrian coast from Whitehaven to Millom.
It was originally started by a team of volunteers in July 2020 to help people in Copeland access food during the Corona Virus pandemic and operated out of the Cleator Moor Civic Hall.
Food Pantry continues to operate from one of the business units within Phoenix Court in Cleator Moor. This was only supposed to be a short-term project, but as there continues to be a need in the community we have continued to offer the support.
With financial backing through a local and national funding initiative, a PEC-employed Food Pantry Coordinator and our fantastic team of volunteers continue to organise this food service for residents in the former Copeland areas. The Food Pantry team gather weekly to source, pack and deliver food parcels to people who require our help.
The Food Pantry has remained an essential helpline to people and their families throughout the Copeland area. The people we support regularly rely on PEC’s Food Pantry for food and the basic essentials due to a variety of personal circumstances. This need has been further exacerbated due to the current cost-of-living crisis in the United Kingdom.
All Food Pantry clients work together with our Advice and Guidance team towards securing a more stable financial situation for themselves and their families with some help from our partner agencies, such as Whitehaven, Egremont & District Credit Union, Citizens Advice Copeland and the Department for Work and Pensions DWP
Now more than ever, we are looking for help from local businesses, organisations, and YOU. You can help Phoenix Enterprise Centres Food Pantry by donating via our website so we can continue to support our local community.
